<p>El juego ha sido recurrente tema de estudio por parte de profesionales del área de la psicología, sociología, antropología y también de la educación. No obstante, esta diversidad de acercamientos, no se ha llegado a establecer una única definición para Juego -Sandberg & Pramling, 2003-. En vista de ello, en este trabajo se pretende construir una definición de juego a partir de las concepciones que tienen los profesores de Educación Básica del primer Ciclo Básico del sistema escolar chileno. En base al modelo de Expectativa - Valor -Expectancy & Value- de Wigfield y Eccles -2000- se aplicó la Escala de Motivación por el Juego -EMJ- de Muñoz y Valenzuela -2014- que mide el nivel de motivación que tienen los profesores por incluir el juego en sus prácticas educativas. Este modelo permite identificar los siguientes componentes asociados al juego: Importancia, Interés, Utilidad y Costo. Este estudio está enfocado en las concepciones de juego y en el nivel de motivación que tienen treinta y dos docentes de tres instituciones educativas dependientes de la Corporación de Viña del Mar y de Valparaíso. Metodológicamente el estudio se realizó bajo un enfoque mixto de investigación. En una primera fase, de carácter cuantitativo, se aplicó una escala tipo Likert donde los profesores declaran la motivación que tienen por aplicar el juego, a través de un auto-reporte. En segundo lugar, en una fase cualitativa, se realizaron cuatro grupos focales -focus group-, en los cuales los docentes declararon las creencias que tienen sobre el juego en el contexto escolar. Los resultados muestran una definición de juego que tienen los profesores, el nivel de motivación de ellos por aplicar el juego en sus prácticas docentes, especificando que el costo del juego es el factor que más influye en ellos. Además, los detalles de la viabilidad de utilizar el juego como un dispositivo didáctico en el Primer Ciclo de Educación Básica</p>
