<p>Objetivo: el objetivo de esta investigación fue descubrir la relación parental que existe entre el nivel de actividad física que tienen los padres con el nivel de actividad física de sus hijos. Método: se encuesto a una población de niños de entre 8 y 11 años correspondientes a los cursos de tercero a quinto básico y sus respectivos padres, del colegio Diego Velázquez ubicado en la ciudad de Viña del Mar. Se obtuvo finalmente una muestra de 96 padres y 96 hijos-as, obteniendo un total de 192 encuestas. Para la aplicación del instrumento en los niños, se utilizaron 45 minutos aproximadamente de sus horarios de consejo de curso. En el caso de los padres, se utilizó un tiempo de 10-15 minutos aproximadamente de sus reuniones de apoderados. Resultados: en el modo de desplazamiento, si el padre se desplaza caminando, existe una probabilidad de 8 veces de que el hijo también lo haga. En el nivel de actividad física, si el padre es activo existe una probabilidad de 2,7 veces de que el hijo también lo sea. En cuanto a las barreras de desplazamiento que dicen tener los padres sobre sus hijos para no permitirle trasladarse caminando o en bicicleta al colegio, el 40 por ciento no lo permite por la inseguridad en el trayecto, y el 13 por ciento por la distancia existente entre el hogar y el establecimiento. Conclusión: los resultados demuestran que el nivel de actividad física de los padres influye de manera significativa sobre el nivel de actividad física de los hijos; también, en la cantidad de horas de tiempo sedentario del día. Además, se deslumbro que las principales razones para que sus hijos no se trasladen caminando o en bicicleta, serian la inseguridad y la distancia entre el hogar y el establecimiento, siendo estas las barreras de desplazamiento</p>
