<p>El aumento del envejecimiento poblacional, ha significado que la vejez sea un tema a indagar en la actualidad. Por este motivo, la presente investigación pretende dar a conocer los significados asociados a la vejez que circulan en la población adulta mayor en sectores de la quinta región de Valparaíso. Apoyados para este propósito, desde un marco conceptual que busca reconocer las voces de los sujetos involucrados. En este sentido, la perspectiva biográfica y la postgerontología resultan ser un marco conceptual que permite significar y resignificar la experiencia de la vejez. Para el estudio, esto sugiere un análisis de las fuerzas más amplias que componen las narrativas de los sujetos, en donde los resultados evidencian un relato marcado por los significados negativos que históricamente se han atribuido a la vejez y, por otra parte, significados positivos cuando se narra sobre la propia experiencia de vivir esta etapa vital. Ante esto, la psicología comunitaria aporta un enfoque metodológico que reconoce la participación de los sujetos implicados, rescatando sus narrativas en pos de conocer críticamente la experiencia de la adultez mayor</p> |

<p>Old age has become a widely researched topic since there has been a growth of the aging population. Hence, the aim of this research is to shed light on the meaning the elderly from the Valparaíso Region give to old age. To do this, a conceptual framework which aims to acknowledge the voices of the subjects that participated in the research will be used. In this respect, the biographical approach and the postgerontology form a conceptual framework that allows us to give new meanings to old age. This led to an analysis of the external and cultural factors that permeate the subjects’ narratives. The results show stories characterized, on the one hand, by the negative meanings society has historically attributed to old age and, on the other hand, by the positive meanings the subjects attribute to old age when they narrate their own experiences living that stage of their lives. In view of that, community psychology contributes with a methodological approach that acknowledges the participation of the subjects, highlighting their narratives to achieve a critical understanding of old age</p> |
