The technical feasibility of manufacturing a marine wave recorder based on a low cost continuous wave microwave transceiver was evaluated. The transceiver emits a sine wave in the K band and captures the reflection of the wave in moving objects, based on the Doppler effect. In this project, the object in motion is the surface of the sea, as a consequence of the waves. The transceiver uses to I-Q technology, that is, it includes two mixers that multiply the signal captured by sinusoids offset 90 grados. By comparing the phases of the outputs of the mixers it is possible to deduce the direction of movement of the detected object. The outputs of the mixers were amplified, filtered, converted to a digital format and recorded in a file. Subsequently, they were processed using DSP algorithms developed for the project, and optimized for low-cost micro-controllers. As the frequencies of the signals obtained are proportional to the speed at which the sea height changes, the algorithm measures and integrates them to determine the instantaneous height of the wave. Laboratory tests were performed simulating a wave by the vertical movement of the sensor on a metal plate that has a reflection coefficient similar to that of seawater. The results obtained showed an excellent concordance between the movement of the sensor and the reconstructed wave
