<p>The following paper proposes the study of a new type of reactive compensator based on the buck-boost converter, connected in parallel to an electrical distribution system, which has a load commercial type variable power. First studying the new topology based on a Flexible AC Transmission System -FACTS- called Static Var Compensator -SVC-, operating by switching semiconductors that act as switches in high frequency. Then a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the new device is presented, through which are derived the equations that govern it, to perceive the behavior of the new SVC, hereinafter going to be known as Static Var Compensator Switched at High Frequency buck-boost type -SVC-HF-BB-, to compensate reactive power, through simulations in a computer PSIM software. Obtaining results both for a two-machine system and for the distribution system that the converter acts as a variable reactance in a range of operation, which can increase or decrease from a fixed value, as in behavior of the voltage in a buck-boost converter</p>
