Abstract:
It has been reported that bacteriophage P1 injects DNA into serovar Choleraesuis without evidence of productive infection. However, we found that P1 generates progeny and is capable of transduction in serovar Choleraesuis. This is not the case with other serovars of Salmonella enterica we tested. Therefore, P1 could play a role in serovar Choleraesuis evolution and contribute to its genetic manipulation and analysis. © 2012 Institut Pasteur.
