At present there is not much information about the active commuting and how it relates to health, sedentary lifestyle, physical activity, etc. What happens with the BMI of the students who move actively to their houses of study? Are they more physically actives? Is the moving way relation by the socioeconomic factor? These questions guide this study which seeks to show guidelines to future action planes with relevant information to our national reality. This study has as objective determinate the kind of active commuting which the university students do from their residences to their universities and vice versa and his relation on BMI and the level of physical activity. This study is cross-sectional and exploratory, where was analyzed a sample of 171 students of PUCV on two subjects of fundamental formation of the university. The people filled out a questionnaire about mode of displacement, physical activity level and socioeconomic level, and a BMI measurement of they was taken (height and weight). The sample was categorized in two groups, the students who are displaced actively, and the students who are displaced passively, where was observed that approximately just a 36% of the students choose the active commuting (walking or cycling). The active commuting in our investigation has been related with different variables. Regarding the study variables, the subjects of physical activity level had the highest percentage of actives displacement in the first leg and the return, being this value pproximately of 40%. It turned out that the higher socio-economic level there was less active commuting. Finally, most of the active commuting belonged to the normal BMI. From the point of view of the active commuting the further away the student resides in the university moves less actively, by which it is recognized that while more near the university alive the student, the more likely that the person will move actively. In terms of physical activity level, the high-level move more actively than the lower levels. Finally the active commuting must direct it from what it is, a form of physical activity, therefore it could be an important means of incorporate more activity in people`s lives, or in this case physical college students, to improve the quality of life of these
